Ashok Kumar to head intelligence
Chennai: The state government on Monday revamped the state intelligence apparatus by bringing in Ashok Kumar, a 1982 batch IPS officer, as additional director general of police, intelligence. South Zone inspector general of police P. Kannappan has been posted as the new inspector general of police, intelligence (internal security), in place of Abhash Kumar.
Ashok Kumar, currently posted as ADGP economic offences wing, had earlier worked as joint director of the CBI. Interestingly, IG Kannappan had earlier served in CBI. Apart from Kannappan, another inspector general of police, Amaresh Poojari is also serving in the intelligence wing.
It may be recalled that the state police had also brought superintendent of police K. Bhavaneeswari as the new head for Q branch, a couple of days back. Even after the latest shuffle, the post of DIG intelligence remains vacant.
As on Monday, IG Abhash Kumar has been not given any postings by the government.
A press release from the home department said Dr Prateep V. Philip, ADGP, crime, will be the new head of the economic offences wing.
