Asom celebrates Bhupen Hazarika's 85th birthday
The singing legend Bhupen Hazarika turned 85 on Thursday. Prominent artistes including Zubeen Garg, Pulak Banerjee, Moloya Goswami rendered songs of the Dadasaheb Phalke award winner at the Indian Tea Association cultural complex in Asom.
All Assam Students Union in a separate function held at the banks of the Dighalipukhuri recalled the contribution of Hazarika. Hazarika, currently being treated at the Kokilaben Hospital in Mumbai, cut a cake at the ICU, family sources said.
True friendship
Meanwhile, Hazarika's longtime associate and noted musician Pranabiram Barua died after he came out of the Doordarshan Kendra which aired a programme on his birthday.
Participating in the programme, Barua said: "What can I gift you as a friend? I am sure you will return among your fans and I pray that some years of my life be given to you," Barua (75) said in the programme that was recorded in the Central Production Centre (CPC) this evening.
Barua, who suffered a cardiac arrest, was pronounced dead at the Guwahati Neurological and Research Centre here.
