Assam activists oppose Honey Singh concert

Several frontline organisations and women activists of Assam have expressed their strong resentment over the proposed music concert of Desi rapper Honey Singh, who courted controversy for his songs allegedly based on sexual themes.

Subhakaran Entertainment and Motion Media Entertainment Pictures have announced hosting the concert of controversial singer at Sarusajai Stadium here on February 10.
The powerful students organisation Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chhatra Parishad has urged the organisers and the administration to cancel the concert. The students’ body has threatened that if the organisers and the administration do not cancel it, the organisers may have to face the music of the aggrieved and socially conscious people of the state.
In a statement, the AJYCP said that the kind of music promoted by Honey Singh and his ilk was akin to vulgarity and perversion of the worst kind.
Condemning the organisers of the concert, it further said, “The lyrics of Honey Singh’s songs reflect the attitude of a pervert, and is against our social and cultural ethos. We wonder what could be the motive of the organisers’ in holding such vulgar shows.” The preparatory committee of the Aam Aadmi Party has appealed for cancellation of concert.
of Honey Singh.
Accusing the singer of performing obscene lyrics and anti-women in nature, the coordinator of AAP preparatory committee Pranjal Bordoloy also warned to oppose the concert if it is allowed to take place. Several women activists are also up in arms to oppose the concert of Honey Singh for which passes are being sold by organisers indicating that they have decided to go ahead with concert even after the protest.
