Assam: BJP for post-poll alliance with non-Cong parties
In an indication of the optimism of the BJP to be part of a ruling combination at any cost, BJP national general secretary Arti Mehra on Saturday said the party is willing to go for a post-poll alliance with any non-Congress party in the state to form the next government.
“We have no problem in having an understanding with even the AIUDF, a party of minorities, to oust the Congress in Assam,” she asserted.
Ms Mehra said, “BJP is fighting the ensuing assembly elections alone. But, in the post-poll scenario, it’s ready to align with any non-Congress party to come to power. We have no problem in joining hands with AIUDF because the party is democratic and is functioning under the Constitution. We are hopeful that the next government in the state will be formed under BJP’s leadership with possible support from parties like AGP, ASDC, AIUDF and the BPPF.”
Ms Mehra said the BJP governments in states like Gujarat and Bihar are the assets on which they want people of Assam to vote.
“BJP will highlight the functioning of Bihar and Gujarat governments as role models before the electorate of Assam during poll campaigning.
“We will request them to bring BJP to power and enjoy good governance. BJP is committed of giving a clean and corruption-free government which will be committed to welfare and development of all sections of people,” she added.
