Assam: Cong yet to decide on pre-poll ties
The Congress party has not taken any decision about whether or not to have a pre-poll alliance with the like minded parties in the coming Assam Assembly elections.
“It has not been discussed... it is a political decision,” said the Congress general secretary in charge of the party affairs in Assam, Mr Digvijay Singh, here on Thursday. He was answering to questions by reporters.
Recently, Mr Singh visited the state in the new capacity.
The Congress had earlier fraught the Bihar Assembly polls on its own and even contested all the Lok Sabha seats in Uttar Pradesh without any alliance. The Congress which has been in power in Assam, could face the anti incumbency factor. Mr Singh, who has been handling UP as the party in charge, would have little time left to convert the anti incumbency into a pro incumbency in Assam.
The Congress line of alliances and coalitions is expected to be spelt out in the party Plenary session to be held in the national capital.
