Assam cops to seek Saradha chief’s custody
The Assam police wants to take arrested Saradha Group chief Sudipta Sen for investigations in cases against him in that state. Assam DGP Jayanta Narayan Choudhury told this newspaper Sunday his officers will seek to take him in their custody when his two-week remand ends.
“There are around seven-eight cases against him in Assam, including in Guwahati, Jorhat and Bongaigaon. The cases include complaints by employees of two newspapers of the group, Sakalbela and Seven Sisters Post, as well as depositors. Once the 14-day custody ends, we will try to bring him here on remand,” Mr Choudhury said.
To take Mr Sen to Assam, the Assam police will have to seek the permission of the Bidhannagar court here. Sources said Assam may also seek the custody of Mr Sen’s key aides Debjani Mukherjee and Arvind Singh Chauhan. Besides West Bengal, the chit fund company has a significant footprint in both Assam and Tripura.

2-day BJP stir from May 4 on ‘Coalgate’
Age Correspondent
New Delhi, April 28
Continuing its attack against Prime Minister Manmohan Singh on coal allocations, the BJP announced Sunday it would hold a two-day agitation in all state capitals from May 4 against the government’s “abominable attempt” to “cover up massive corruption”.
BJP spokesman Prakash Javadekar told reporters: “An abominable attempt is being made by the Congress government to cover up corruption in coal. The party has decided to take this fight against corruption and massive coverup from Parliament to the people of the country.” “We will hold demonstrations in all state capitals on May 4-5, and submit a memorandum to the governors,” he said. He also alleged that the PM was using law minister Ashwani Kumar as a “shield” to protect himself.
