Assam Maoists held in Orissa
Guwahati/Bhubaneswar, Feb. 12: In what has been stated to be the first direct evidence of Maoist link in Assam and other northeastern states, security forces on Saturday nabbed three Assamese youths from Saranda forest area of Sunderdgarh district in Orissa.
Disclosing that one of them was identified as Aditya Bora, an authoritative security source told this newspaper that they were caught while coming from a Maoist camp inside the deep forest of Orissa bordering Jharkhand.
Security agency was trailing the movement of Aditya Bora since past few weeks as he circulated press statement in the local media claiming the existence of Maoist base in Assam, security sources said adding that they are also trying to verify their connections in Assam.
This is for the first time that security agencies have come across direct evidence of Maoist activities in the trouble-torn northeastern states.
Though, top Maoist leaders were found to have been in touch with elusive Ulfa chief Paresh Baruah and other separatist outfits of Manipur but this was for the first time that their direct link in Assam was found.
Meanwhile in Orissa, suspected Maoists on Saturday killed one of their former colleagues and her two-year-old son at Rourkela.
The victim was identified as Kandri Lohar alias Madhuri. She had surrendered before the police 2004 to lead normal life.
According to police, a group of rebels came to Kandri house in the morning and started firing at her indiscriminately. She died on the spot. The Maoists then killed her son by slitting his throat.
Sources said the Maoists were not happy with Kandri surrendering before the police and working as a home guard.
