Assam resents student exodus
Resentment prevailed in Assam on Tuesday following the report in local media claiming that some students of the state are threatened in Hyderabad and other cities of Kerala, Karnataka and Maharashtra by some miscreants in the wake of violence in Assam.
Some of the students who called up local news channels in Guwahati complained of receiving unanimous calls threatening to leave Hyderabad where they are studying.
There were reports in the local media of some Bodo students being targeted in Pune where they are pursuing their higher studies in different educational institutions.
The local TV news channels also claimed that a number of students have already boarded the train following the threat in Hyderabad and Bengaluru.
Meanwhile, Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi in a statement here on Tuesday evening said that he was in touch with his counterparts in Kerala, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Maharasthra following reports of exodus of the state’s students after being targeted in the wake of violence in Bodoland Territorial Autonomous District (BTAD). “The chief minister is in constant touch with his counterparts who have assured him to provide security to the students from the state who are in the grip of fear psychosis,” said Asam chief minister’s office.
Meanwhile, All-Bodo Students Union president Pramod Boro told this newspaper that they are seriously worried about the exodus of students from these states.

Gogoi may go in for a reshuffle

With Assam chief minister Tarun Gogoi calling a meeting of his council of ministers on Thursday, a day before he is leaving for New Delhi, the speculation has started about a major shake-up in the state council of ministers.
Informing that the chief minister has invited all the ministers at his residence on Thursday evening, the insiders said that Mr Gogoi is likely to ask his council of ministers to resign.
