ATS begins probe against NCP mantri
The Anti-Corruption Bure-au has begun an inquiry into allegations against water resources and irrigation minister Sunil Tatk-are. BJP leader Kirit Soma-iya and one Rajendra Pha-nse had filed a complaint with the ACB on July 2 this year for alleged corrupt practices, money laundering and benami (proxy) money transactions.
“A preliminary inquiry has been initiated into the complaint involving Tatk-are,” ACB director-general Raj Khilnani said.
Mr Tatkare is known to be close to Ajit Pawar and the probe against Mr Tatkare comes at a time when Mr Pawar has resi-gned as deputy chief minister over allegations of his involvement in a multi-crore scam. In his complaint, Mr Somaiyya has alleged that various government agencies had aided Mr Tatkare and his kin in land grabbing and money laundering. Later, Mr Somaiyya also filed a PIL against the NCP minister in the Bombay high court, which recently asked the state government to spell out its stand on the matter. The PIL has prayed for constitution of a special investigation team (SIT) under the supervision of the HC to probe the matter in a specified time frame.
