ATS to file charges on 2 accused
The Maharashtra anti-terrorism squad (ATS) is likely to file a chargesheet against the two accused in Pune’s German Bakery blast case in the Pune court on Saturday.
In September, the ATS had arrested two people in connection with the blast which left 17 people dead and 56 injured. The ATS had claimed that the operation of the blast was controlled by terrorist outfit Lashkar-e-Tayyaba from Pakistan.
The ATS would be filing a chargesheet against Himayat Baig, 29, and Sheikh Hussain alias Bilal, 27. According to the ATS, Baig is the Maharashtra chief of the LeT.
The ATS had also recovered two kilograms of RDX, wires, cutters, LeT literature, US $1,300 and `10,500 in cash, sim cards obtained by submitting forged documents, mobile phone handsets and pen drives from them.
The chargesheet will have six wanted accused —Mohsin Choudhary and Mohammed Siddibappa alias Yasin and four others. According to the ATS, the conspiracy of the blast was hatched in January this year at Udgir in the Latur district.
The duo is expected to be charged with murder and waging war against the country under the Indian Penal Code and various others sections of Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act and Explosive Substances Act.
Baig, Choudhary and Yasin had a meeting in January at Udgir. After the meeting Baig conducted a reconnaissance of the German Bakery. He observed the time when maximum foreigners visited the bakery, claimed the ATS.
