ATS seeks time to file charges in Ajmer case
A local court in Ajmer has granted more time to the Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) of the Rajasthan police to complete investigation and file a chargesheet in the dargah blast case. The ATS sought more time to finalise a chargesheet against the suspects arrested in the blast case.
The ATS had produced one of the suspects, Chandarshekhar, before a local court on Friday and requested for more time in filing the chargesheet. The ATS had arrested three persons, namely Chandarshekhar, Devendra Gupta and Lokesh Sharma. The ATS informed the court that Gupta and Sharma were in Hyderabad for questioning in the Mecca Masjid blasts.
Under the criminal law, the investigating agency has to file a chargesheet in the stipulated 90 days against the arrested persons. The 90-day time limit had completed on July 27 but the ATS cited provisions made in the Unlawful Activities Act, which was given 180 days’ time to file the chargesheet.
The ATS contended that the blast case has wide implications and it needs more time to complete the investigations. The ATS is also looking to arrest few more suspects.
