ATS takes custody of Aseemanand
The Anti-Terrorist Squad (ATS) took Aseemanand into its custody and produced him before a local court in Ajmer on Saturday in connection with blast at the dargah in 2007. The ATS brought Aseemanand from Harayana to Ajmer following the court-issued production warrant for him.
Aseemanand requested to be provided with a lawyer as no lawyer turned up to argue his case. Earlier, when the ATS had arrested five persons belonging to a Hindu radical group, a battery of lawyers were available to plead their case.
The court had twice issued a production warrant for Aseemanand, who is said to be the mastermind of the Ajmer blast.
The CBI had arrested him from Haridwar in November 2010, where he was hiding with a fake identity. His arrest in the Ajmer blast case is considered to be an important development.
According to the ATS, Aseemanand was under the National Investigating Agency’s custody in connection with Samjhauta Express blast case.
