Audit of aviation institutes
Civil aviation minister Praful Patel on Wednesday ordered the DGCA to audit all aviation training institutes, even as the DGCA is all set to frame regulations regarding an “Effective Fatigue Management System” which will be then despatched to airlines for strict implementation. The issue of pilot and crew fatigue is crucial since the Mangalore aircrash is suspected to have occurred on account of the pilot’s error of judgement.
The audit of institutes ordered by the minister will include aviation engineering training institutes, flight training institutes and cabin crew training institutes. This was ordered by Mr Patel who presided over the second meeting of the Civil Aviation Safety Advisory Council (CASAC) in the Capital on Wednesday.
Meanwhile, Mr Patel — at a meeting of the Parliamentary Consultative Committee on Civil Aviation — “expressed deep regret and grief over the Mangalore accident” and “said that it should never have happened”, the civil aviation ministry stated.
