In the land of Lord Ram, the Bharatiya Janata Party on Thursday promised to bring in Ram Rajya in Uttar Pradesh.

Ayodhya, that wore a bright saffron hue with marigold strings, also reverberated with cries of “Jai Shri Ram” after a considerable gap.

The BJP also made a concerted effort to convince people that it will no longer extend support to either the BSP or the SP if it fell short of a majority on its own.

Addressing a “Vijay Sankalp Samagam” rally in Ayodhya to mark the culmination of the two Jan Swabhimaan Yatras, BJP president Nitin Gadkari said that the BJP had already prepared a blueprint for the development of Uttar Pradesh and if given a five-year term, the party will ensure 24-hour power supply, employment opportunities for the youth and all-round development.

“I promise a corruptionfree and development-oriented government if you vote us to power. We request you to give us a full majority and if you do not do so, we assure you that we will not extend our support to either SP or BSP. We will prefer to sit in the Opposition,” he said to a thunderous applause.

Mr Gadkari said that a magnificent Ram temple will soon be built in Ayodhya and the party was now committed to providing “Ram Rajya”, which was synonymous with good governance to the people. Mounting a blistering attack on the Mayawati government, the BJP president said that the UP chief minister was only concerned with installing statues and had no time to spare a thought for cane growers and potato growers who were facing bad times.

“The Mulayam Singh regime was known for its goonda raj while the Mayawati government is known for taking corruption to a new high. Both these parties are also supporting the UPA government because they are apprehensive of the disproportionate assets’ cases against their top leadership,” he said.

Former BJP president Rajnath Singh also blamed the Samajwadi Party and the BSP for the survival of the UPA government.

“The UPA government is now known for taking inflation and corruption to new heights and it is BSP and SP that are continuing their support to the UPA government. Both these parties had also prevented the fall of the UPA 1 too,” he said. Mr Singh said the BSP and SP were quiet on the issue of price hike.
