Azad death a blow to us:CPI (Maoist)
The death of rebel top gun Cherukuri Rajkumar, alias Azad, has dealt a big blow to the Maoist movement in India, a press release issued by the central committee of the outlawed CPI (Maoist) here on Saturday said.
“Azad’s killing has caused a crippling effect on the Maoist movement in the country. The Maoist campaign has, no doubt, suffered a serious setback following his elimination by the Andhra Pradesh police,” said the release circulated to a select group of scribes here.
Azad, a member and spokesman of the Central Committee of CPI (Maoist), was an ideologue and had also specialized in field-craft.
The release has also indicated that the Operation Green Hunt, launched by the Centre against Left-wing extremism in the states of Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand and West Bengal has hit hard the ongoing Maoist movement in the “strategic part of Red Corridor” in the country.
“The Operation Green Hunt is yielding success to the security forces in their battle against the Maoists,” the three-page release signed by one Abhay said.

‘Only Navi Mumbai for airport’
Mumbai : Civil aviation minister Praful Patel emphatically said Saturday that the proposed new international airport would come up at the Navi Mumbai site and there was no questions of any other option. Briefly interacting with media persons here, Mr Patel said there is no suitable alternative site available for the new airport except the one at Navi Mumbai. He said that while his ministry would consider the environmental issues, there was not much scope for changing the design of the planned airport though he had suggested to the City and Industrial Development Corporatio that it examine the issue. “However, we do not have any other suitable alternate site for the new airport so it will come up at Navi Mumbai,” he said.
The proposed airport has been embroiled in controversy following strong objections raised to the project site by Union environment and forests minister Jairam Ramesh.
