B’luru: Friends kill techie

New Year revelry turned tragic for a 26-year-old techie after his inebriated friends allegedly stabbed him more than five times and killed him during an argument at La Marvella Hotel in Siddapura police limits.
The deceased, Karthik Vishnu, a native of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu, had gone to celebrate New Year with six of his friends and all of them had consumed alcohol. Karthik had arrived in the city only a week ago and had joined an IT firm. According to police, he and his friends were partying at La Marvella Hotel, but later, his body was found on the pavement near the hotel.
Around 1.30 am, the friends suddenly got into a fight and went outside the hotel. Later, Karthik was stabbed more than five times in the stomach and dumped on the pavement.
A hotel security guard noticed Karthik lying on the pavement and initially, all the security guards thought he was drunk and had fallen down.
But when they noticed him bleeding, the hotel authorities informed the police.
Karthik was rushed to St. John’s Hospital, but he was declared brought dead. Senior police officials who went through the CCTV footage at the hotel believe that the incident occurred around 1.30 am and that three of Karthik friends were seen leaving the hotel in an autorickshaw.
The three have now been detained for questioning. The Siddapura police has registered a case and is investigating.

‘No issue if NCP sits in Opp. post 2014 polls’
Mumbai, Jan. 1: Taking a dig at NCP chief Sharad Pawar for his remark that NCP might reconsider continuing its alliance with the UPA in 2014 elections to Lok Sabha and state Assembly, Maharash-tra chief minister Prithviraj Chavan on Tuesday said it was fine if the party has decided to sit in Opposition.
“Let the results come..If they (NCP) want to sit in the opposition, then what is the issue,” Chavan told reporters here when asked to comment on the NCP chief’s statement.
Ruling out the possibility of mid-term polls at Centre, Mr Chavan said the NCP and Congress had been contesting local-level elections against each other.
“I don’t think there is any possibility of mid-term polls. We contest elections against each other at the local level,” he said.
On state government’s drought mitigation programme, the chief minister said that “so far, `900 crores have been spent for this purpose, while `1,000-1,100 crores would be additionally required to tackle the drought-like situation”. — PTI

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
