Baba followers from Assam are stranded
As news of more than 360 followers of Baba Ramdev being stranded in New Delhi after police action has started reaching to their respective areas, anger has started growing among the people of the respective areas and villages.
The Satyagraha of Baba Ramdev against corruption had abruptly ended following the police crackdown at Ramlila Maidan but it was not known that how many of them are wounded or missing.
Dipak Pathak and Geeta Das, members of the Patanjali Yoga Samity and the Bharat Swabhiman Trust’s Assam unit respectively, suffered injuries in their legs when the Delhi police caned them along with other followers of Baba Ramdev.
While Mr Pathak is a resident of Amingaon, Ms Geeta is from Hojai.
Two of the activists, Ranendra Nath from Silchar and Narendra Das from Baksha, were reported missing in stampede.
A group of about 365 followers of Baba Ramdev had gone to the national capital to express their solidarity for Baba Ramdev’s agitation against black money. Most of them are stranded in New Delhi and are trying to get in touch with each other. Vice-president of the Assam unit of Patanjali Yoga Samity and Bharat Swabhiman Trust in Assam, Mr Pramod Chaudhury, told reporters, “Along with their companions, Mr Pathak and Ms Geeta were on fast since Saturday morning, But the police beat them up mercilessly. Most of the people from the state spent the night on railway stations and at Jantar Mantar among other places.” Expressing his deep anguish over the police atrocities, he said, “They had their return tickets booked for next week. Till then, they do not know where to go. They have lost their belongings in the mayhem. Some women have fallen ill because of Delhi’s scorching heat and the fast.”
The leaders of the state unit of both the organisations, however, said that they would continue with the agitation.
“We are continuing our Satyagraha. We are also waiting for the directive of Baba Ramdev about our future course of action. Police atrocity on Baba Ramdev and his followers have strengthen their commitment to fight against corruption and black money,” he said, adding that more and more people are joining the Satyagraha being staged also at 15 other district headquarters of the state.
