Babu gets 2-day Maha custody for Babli yatra
Dharmabad (Nanded, Maharashtra), July 17: Amid high drama, the Telugu Desam chief, Mr N. Chandrababu Naidu, and other party MPs, MLAs and MLCs protesting against the controversial Babli project were remanded to two days judicial custody by a local magistrate on Saturday. Mr Naidu and fellow leaders had been arrested on Friday for trying to march to the Babli project site on a fact-finding mission.
The TD has exhorted for a state-wide hartal on Monday to protest against the arrests of the leaders.
Mr Naidu and other TD leaders have been temporarily confined in Dharmabad itself since no nearby jail was willing to lodge all the 74 VIPs. Besides, Mr Naidu and other TD leaders insisted they should be kept at one place. It is learnt that the Maharashtra police is planning to keep the male TD leaders in the ITI Centre where they have been confined for over 24 hours and shift the dozen women legislators to another spot. In case the TD leaders refuse to take bail by Monday, they will be remanded to further judicial custody and shifted to jails.
