Bainsla signs pact, calls off Gujjar stir

Agitating Gujjar leader K.S. Bainsla has signed a peace pact with the state government on Wednesday and announced that the community had called off its 17-day-old agitation for reservation in government services. “I immediately call off the agitation,” said Mr Bainsla after signing the pact at the state secretariat.

The state government had reassured the Gujjar leaders that the one per cent quota for the community will continued and a quantify survey of the communities to gauge backwardness will be completed within six months.
“I am thankful to the Gujjar leaders for reaching a peace pact. It was painful for me to see people staging a sit-in this cold,” said chief minister Ashok Gehlot.
The state government also agreed to pursue the reservation to be made a part of the Ninth Schedule.
The government promised to strengthen the Devnarayan Board for development of the community.
According to the railway sources, the Mumbai-Delhi route will be made operational after the Gujjars clear the tracks.
