Bandh unjustified, says Murli Deora
Petroleum minister Murli Deora said Sunday that the Opposition bandh call was “totally unjustified” as the hike in fuel prices had only a “negligible impact” on the common man.
He said the Opposition was “misleading people”, and added: “These parties (were) instrumental in notifying (petroleum) deregulation reducing subsidies in November 1997, and in implementing (it) from April 2002.”
The minister said the Rs 3/litre kerosene hike translates into an increase of just 50 paise per day per family. The Rs 35 per cylinder increase in LPG prices, he noted, means an increase of less than a rupee per day per family.
