Bandhs cause hardships
Hyderabad: Political parties, advocates, doctors, autorickshaw drivers, cable operators, civic employees and others in the Seemandhra region came out on the roads on Monday, staging rasta rokos and dharnas, demanding that the state remain united.
With commercial establishments, banks, ATMs, kirana shops and domestic gas agencies being closed for several days, people in the region have been facing a lot of hardships. The Krishna district political JAC, meanwhile, demanded the resignation of elected representatives of all parties and asked them to join the Samaikyandhra movement.
Former minister Devineni Rajashekar said the Samaikyandhra agitation would have started even before UPA leaders announced the state’s bifurcation and would have been more intense had they known earlier about the decision.
In Vijayawada, civic services were badly hit as employees of the municipal corporation launched a 72-hour agitation and boycotted all civic services except drinking water supply. In Nellore too, traffic was severely affected for one-and-a-half hours at Kavali when students’ JAC and newly-elected sarpanches blocked the roads. Most educational institutes were also closed.
In Tirupati, hundreds of pilgrims were stranded at bus stations as RTC buses were out of operation. Meanwhile, Anjaneyulu of Pakala Railway Junction town, who had set himself on fire, died at SVRR Hospital on Monday. The 40-year-old, suffered 50 per cent burns when he set himself ablaze in Pulivendula.
Also, one Fakruddin, 24, died of cardiac arrest at Chintarayampalli village in Kurnool while watching TV news about the bifurcation.
