Bangla migrants threat to N-E: IB
Contrary to the claims of the home ministry, a study by the Intelligence Bureau has warned that the migration from Bangladesh was still going on which is not only a threat to the demography of the region but also posing a serious threat to the security of the nation.
The report has been prepared after an extensive study of the ground situation in Assam and Nagaland by IB special director R.N. Ravi who retired from the services on April 30.
The report, which is biting the dust of the home ministry since 2006, deals at length with the entire dynamics of the migration, a problem afflicting the Northeast for decades.
The report has found that the migration from Bangladesh, which started for land-grabbing in its initial stage, was still rampant.
However, now the reasons causing migration from Bangladesh is economic. The extensive survey and study of the realistic data has revealed that migrants are coming largely for job in construction and other labour-oriented industries of the region.
The report, which has also assessed the volume of migration in recent years claimed that the migration, which is taking place now, was of course not for any political reasons but those coming has created a political environment which is politically sensitive and making the entire region vulnerable to a massive security threat from anti-India forces.
The report of Mr Ravi, an IPS officer of the 1976-batch, has also found that migration for land-grabbing has come to a saturation level as most of unoccupied or unused lands in Assam and Nagaland have already been grabbed or occupied.
