Bangla wants to redraw sea border

Bangladesh will approach the UN seeking to delineate its maritime borders in the Bay of Bengal with India and Burma. Bangladesh claims over 450 nautical miles from its coastline in the Bay of Bengal.
The country has long-standing problems with India and Burma on the issue of “starting point” to mark its marine boundary.
There are overlapping claims by all three neighbouring countries because of the funnel-like coastline of the Bay of Bengal, New Age newspaper said on Thursday.
Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Wednesday approved her Cabinet’s “position paper” which will be sent to the United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) in New York later this month.

Nainital, Feb. 3: The annual pilgrimage to Kailash-Mansarovar in Tibet will commence on May 29, officials said on Thursday.
Over 750 pilgrims in 16 batches will travel to the Himalayan region in China for a holy dip in the Mansarovar lake, they said.
Organised by the ministry of external affairs and coordinated by Kumaun Mandal Vikas Nigam (KMVN), a developmental corporation of the Uttarakhand government, each pilgrim will be asked to pay `19,200, said officials. “When we initiated this pilgrimage in 1981 there were only 59 pilgrims. Till now 10,983 pilgrims have gone to Tibet Autonomous Region in China to worship at Holy Kailash Mountain (19,200 feet) and Mansarovar lake,” said D.K. Sharma the division manager tourism of the KMVN. —PTI

Ravi: Allow duped kids to study in other US varsity
New Delhi, Feb. 3: India on Thursday said the US authorities should allow the students, duped by a California-based “sham” university, to continue their studies in some other American Universities.
Stating that he has received letters from a couple of affected students, minister for overseas indian affairs Vayalar Ravi said they should be allowed “to continue their study in some other universities”. The decision whether they need to come back or not can be taken later, he said.
Duped by the authorities of Tri-Valley University, which has been shut down, hundreds of Indian students, mostly from Andhra Pradesh, faced the threat of being deported back home after having lost their student visa status. Some of them were also made to wear ankle monitors so that their movement can be tracked, a move which has evoked a sharp reaction from India. —PTI
