Bansal row isolates BJP
The BJP got isolated in the Lok Sabha on Monday over parliamentary affairs minister Pawan Kumar Bansal’s alleged role in a Chandigarh shop allotment scam as neither its NDA allies nor any other party backed it on the issue.
Mr Bansal later dared the BJP to raise the issue outside Parliament and face the music.
When Leader of the Opposition Sushma Swaraj raised the matter and BJP members demanded Mr Bansal’s resignation, Samjwadi Party chief Mulayam Singh Yadav seemed furious at the BJP for not allowing him to speak, while the Janata Dal(U), Akali Dal and Shiv Sena (all NDA) remained silent, appearing to distance themselves from her. Other parties, meanwhile, including members of the Left, BJD and JD(S), also did not show any interest in pursuing the matter.
