Baruah planning fresh strikes in Assam?
The elusive Ulfa chief Paresh Baruah and military commander of dreaded National Democratic Front of Bodoland I.K. Songbijit have started fresh attempt to rope in Chinese agencies to spread their terror network outside India.
Disclosing that the Union home ministry has got conclusive evidence on these two rebel leaders establishing contacts with some Chinese “elements” in Yunnan province of China, authoritative security sources in the home ministry told this newspaper that security agencies are certainly worried about this new development.
Informing that India may take up this issue with its Chinese counterpart in next bilateral meetings also, security sources said that elusive Ulfa chief Paresh Baruah has also asked its cadres in Tinsukia and Majuli in Jorhat districts of Assam to show off their strength by carrying out subversive activities in the run up to Independence Day in Assam.
Claiming that two top insurgent leaders are also making a desperate attempt to derail the peace-process with pro-talk faction of Ulfa and NDFB, security sources however said that it was not possible as security agencies are quite aware about their game plan.
Indicating that home ministry will start formal talks with NDFB led by its president Ranjan Daimary within a month time, sources said that informal discussion through interlocutor has already started. Sources added that they have been asked to strengthen their striking power.
Pointing out that Ulfa chief Paresh Baruah was shuttling between Yunnan and Burma, sources said that military commander of NDFB I.K. Songbijit is also believed to have got shelter inside China. Though, it was not known if it was facilitated through Ulfa chief or got the entry on its own.
