Baruah releases video to show strength

The self-styled commander–in-chief of United Liberation Front of Asom (Ulfa), Paresh Baruah, on Friday released a video to the local newspaper demonstrating their cadres strength and arms power.

A day after releasing still photographs of nearly 100 heavily armed Ulfa cadres, the video, now displayed on local television channels, shows Ulfa chief Paresh Baruah celebrating Bihu and dancing with his cadres at an undisclosed location.
The Ulfa doves are also seen hailing Ulfa and shouting “Jai Aai Asom” in the footage.
This is for the first time that Ulfa chief Paresh Baruah one of the most wanted fugitive of the country has released his still photograph and video to counter the claims of the government that outfit has lost its strength.
Majority of Ulfa’s central committee leaders including its chairman Arbinda Rajkhowa were arrested and bailed out by the government to isolate elusive Ulfa chief Paresh Baruah by initiating formal peace talks.
The entire move of Pareh Baruah revealing his look after twenty years has been seen as an attempt to assert his presence to the Indian government as well as to his colleagues who have agreed to give up arms.
The outfit has also made it clear that it was opposed to the peace-talks proposed by the government to start with a faction of Ulfa leaders led by chairman Arbinda Rajkhowa.
Affirming their commitment for armed struggle, the email stated that “better they would prefer to die instead of giving up demand of sovereignty of Assam”.
The video footage has also given a fresh lease of life to the Ulfa sympathisers who came out openly on local television channels condemning the alleged attempt of the government to divide the Ulfa.
Known sympathiser of the Ulfa chief, Hiranya Saikia said that the peace initiative with jailed Ulfa was aimed to use them in elections.
