Baruah ropes in PLA for assam?
With subsequent failure of the anti-talk Ulfa militants in carrying out offensives, elusive Ulfa chief Paresh Baruah is said to have once again been trying to push in highly-trained rebels of Peoples Liberation Army to launch offensive in Assam. Disclosing that some PLA rebels are waiting to sneak into Assam, authoritative security sources told this newspaper that there was no dearth of cadres to Ulfa but most of the new recruits have either been killed in accidental blast or falling trap to security forces in process of executing their plant. More than five Ulfa cadres were killed in such incidents in past few weeks in the state. Pointing out that following repeated failure of new recruits, the Ulfa chief has sought the help of Manipur’s PLA, security sources said that it was second instance within 2011 when the PLA rebels are roped in by the Ulfa to launch violent attacks.
Referring inputs emanating from arrested Ulfa rebels, security sources said that the Ulfa was not short of arms also as they have procured sizeable consignment of sophisticated weapons like AK-81, Remote Controlled Explosive Devices and Lethod guns to hurl grenades. Suspecting that some forces inimical to India have supplied weapons, security sources said that confession of the Ulfa rebels suggests that Ulfa chief gave some weapons to PLA in Burma camps. Indicating that the Ulfa chief was using Internet mobile to call up people for extortion, security sources admitted that this method of using “platform calls” was safer as well as difficult for security agencies to trace the exact origin of the calls. Asserting that the Ulfa chief was roaming in Burma and China border areas, security sources said that the Ulfa chief was looking for 8-10 active Ulfa leaders to motivate the cadres for executing its offensives effectively.
Except Jeevan Moran, the Ulfa chief does not have any senior cadres in its fold to motivate the new recruits, security sources said.
