Baseless BJP allegations, says cong
Terming the allegations made by BJP and other Opposition parties against it in the wake of former Samajwadi Party leader Amar Singh in the cash-for-vote scam as “baseless”, the Congress on Tuesday said the due process of law is being followed in the case. It said that the arrest of Mr Singh and others was the culmination of a “very closely monitored” Delhi police investigation by the Supreme Court.
Responding to the BJP allegation that no action has yet been initiated against the “beneficiaries of the scam”, AICC spokesperson Abhishek Manu Singhvi said, “The main Opposition should stop making baseless allegations, as only due process of law is being followed in the case and also the probe is being closely monitored by the Supreme Court.”
Parliamentary affairs minister Pawan Kumar Bansal also rejected the allegations.
“The Congress government did not need any votes. You can check records and see how many votes we won,” he said.
Mr Bansal also made it clear that there was no need for Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to make a statement on the issue.
