BCCI imposes life ban on Sreesanth
Friday the 13th lived up to its reputation. On the same day that the four adult accused in the December 16 gangrape horror were given the maximum punishment, those involved in spot-fixing in IPL Season 6 were also brought to book by a cricket board panel.
The BCCI disciplinary committee met here under the chairmanship of sidelined president N. Sriniv-asan and pronounced punishments, noticeably a life ban for pacer S. Sreesanth and left-arm spinner Ankeet Chavan, who were found guilty of spot-fixing by the one-man Ravi Sawani commission. Form-er Rajasthan Royals player Amit Singh was banned for five years. Five players — Sreesanth, Ajit Chandila, Chav-an, Harmeet Singh and Siddharth Trivedi — all part of the Royals franchise, deposed before the three-member committee, comprising BCCI vice-presidents Arun Jailtley and Niranjan Shah, besides Mr Srinivasan.
