Be cool on Telangana, Telugu Desam men told
Hyderabad: An uneasy calm prevails in the Telugu Desam, especially among Seemandhra leaders, with the Congress indicating an early announcement on the Telangana issue.
Sources said TD president N. Chandrababu Naidu has, however, asked party leaders not to react or get perturbed till the UPA government comes out with a concrete proposal. Naidu is of the opinion that the move by the Congress could be with an eye on the upcoming local body polls and is waiting for the Congress high command to come clear on the issue.
However, Congress leaders, more than their TD counterparts, are becoming increasingly vocal with some openly opposing bifurcation of the state.
While TD leaders like E. Dayakar Rao have asserted that the party would stand by its decision at the all party meet in New Delhi, some Seemandhra TD leaders are under pressure from Congress leaders in the area with Congress MP Lagadapati Rajagopal even asking the TD to reconsider its decision to support a Telangana state. A senior TD leader from Seemandhra said the future of Naidu itself is at stake if Telangana is granted.
