B.Ed to be 2-year course from next year
Thiruvananthapuram: The Cabinet on Wednesday extended the duration of B.Ed course in the state to two years for helping students take up jobs outside Kerala. The change would be effective from the next academic year of 2014-15.
Chief minister Oommen Chandy said after the cabinet meeting that the decision had been taken to help students to avail of job opportunities coming up across the country following the implementation of the Right to Education Act.
Those with B.Ed degrees, who are now qualified to teach up to SSLC level, would be eligible to teach at the higher secondary level from the next academic year. All changes were being made as per AICTE norms, he added.
Other decisions includes 108 posts sanctioned for Manjeri Medical College, one-time settlement in Housing Board extended up to December 31, 2013, seven ordinances to be resubmitted, increase in pension age to be applicable for Agriculture University staff and Rs 5 lakh solatium for the families of persons who died in Chadayamangalam accident.
