Behave with eves, DGP tells police

Thiruvananthapuram: DGP Balasubramanian has warned the police against misuse or abuse of information pertaining to cyber crimes against women. Cops should not contact the victims or their families without proper reasons, and not make any unwarranted acquaintance with them.
“Stern actions, including registration of criminal cases would follow if any policeman leaked out or abused information received from the petitioners,” a recent order from the DGP to the state police force said.
A police officer had recently misbehaved with a woman who approached him with a complaint. There were also incidents of morphed pictures of women submitted by petitioners to the police being leaked out, causing embarrassment to the victims.
The state is currently witnessing a row over a Malayali girl’s picture being wrongly circulated on the Facebook by miscreants who cited her as the Delhi-rape victim. “The privacy of the victims, especially in case of cyber crimes against women, has to be ensured,” he said.
The DGP also imposed restrictions on cops in taking copies of morphed pictures, e-mails or SMS messages involved in the cyber crimes against women.
