Behaviour norms for teachers
Following a number of allegations of teachers misbehaving with girl students, the state school education department has decided to formulate guidelines for teachers of the government and government-aided schools.
Those schools affiliated to ICSE and CBSE have already formulated guidelines, following alleged misbehaviour of the principal of a city school. According to the sources of the department, the state advisory committee on education had been asked to formulate guidelines for the teachers. The document would be scrutinised by the department after which it would be sanctioned.
“We received several complaints regarding the behaviour of teachers. The department decided to formulate guidelines in the wake of incidents in schools, which not only affected the students but also marred the academic atmosphere,” said a senior official of the department.
It was learnt that the district inspector of schools on instructions from the directorate of school education department would distribute the guidelines to all government schools.
There have been several cases of student abuse by teachers.
