New task force on ficn soon
Age correspondent
Kolkata, Sept. 30
The Border Security Force (BSF) and Border Guard Bangladesh have decided to set up a joint task force to counter the smuggling of fake Indian currency notes (FICN) through the Indo-Bangla border.
BSF additional director general (east) B.D. Sharma announced this on Sunday.
“The DG (BGB) has agreed to the proposal of the joint task force. Its structure will be set up soon,” he said, while speaking on the details of the recently concluded director general (DG) conference between the two forces.
The seizure of FICN by the BSF has touched `19 lakhs till August 2012 while in 2011, the amount had crossed `55 lakhs, Mr Sharma informed. The modus operandi of the FICN racketeers is to send the counterfeit notes along with cattle and consumer durables like pipes from Bangladesh to escape checking, he pointed out.
Meanwhile, the BSF is now focusing more on lowering the killings of infiltrators by using non-lethal weapons at the border.
