Bengal CM launches Left’s toughest battle
West Bengal chief minister Buddhadeb Bhattacharjee on Sunday kick-started the campaign for arguably the toughest Assembly election the Left is going to face in over three decades with the back-to-basics mantra. Addressing a mammoth rally at the sprawling Brigade Parade Ground, Mr Bhattacharjee and all Left leaders wooed their core constituency: the poor and the middle class. “We distributed land among the landless farmers and established the panchayati system.”

Srinagar: Two dead, 3 injured in explosion
Srinagar, Feb. 13: Two siblings were killed and three other members of their family injured when a shell, left over during a fierce gunbattle with militants in Malroo area of the Srinagar city in October 2010, exploded inside their house on Sunday night. “A daughter and a son of Mohammed Maqbool were killed and his two other children and wife injured,” a senior police officer said. —PTI
