Bengal: Cong MP campaigns for rebel candidates
Murshidabad Congress strongman and Berhampore MP Adhir Choudhury on Thursday openly campaigned for rebel Congress candidates in Bhagwangola and Saga
rdighi, disregarding Pranab Mukherjee’s warning.
He also called upon Trinamul Congress supremo Mamata Banerjee to withdraw all four party candidates from Murshidabad. Mr Mukherjee had warned of six year expulsion if any party leader contested the poll against official Congress or Trinamul candidates. Addressing a workers meeting in Bhangwangola, Adhir said that a section of political circle was trying to brand him anti alliance. “But it is wrong, I want Congress and Trinamul Congress to jointly fight and oust CPI(M) from Bengal and I want to see Ms Banerjee as the next chief minister. But the arbitrary manner in which she declared candidates in four seats in this district where her party has no base and which are stronghold of Congress, has insulted thousands of Congress workers,” he claimed. Adhir said that whatever he did he did openly. "I never back stab any one unlike the TMC which has fielded two dummy candidates at Kandi and Berhampore against Congress candidates," he added. A defiant Adhir went so far as to that the high commanded could strip him of his MP post and could even hang him if it wanted but he would not betray the party workers.
“We are determined to defeat the CPI(M) while the Trinamul Congress is bent on weakening the Congress,” he added.
