Bengal govt to set up panchayat tribunal

The state government will set up a tribunal for the panchayat and rural affairs department. The decision has been taken to resolve some thousands of court cases of the department in a speedy manner. A bill will be introduced in the next session of the state Assembly in this regard.

State panchayat and rural development minister Subrata Mukherjee said, “Like land and labour departments, we have also proposed to set up a tribunal for the panchayat department.
The department is burdened with thousands of court cases and most importantly the department has no information about many of the cases. The proposed tribunal will resolve the problem. Initially, it will be set up at the state-level, but later it will be spread into the district-level.”
