Bengal investors’ summit Jan. 9-14

While launching Nano in the Auto Expo in New Delhi in January 2008, Tata Group chairman Ratan Tata had said that one of the names suggested for this car was “Despite Mamata”. Four years down the line, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee wants to make her first investors’ summit a grand success “Despite Ratan Tata”.
The state government is organising a summit Bengal Leads 2012 from January 9 to 14 to showcase the state as an attractive investment destination. The state government has invited all the captains of the industry to attend the inaugural ceremony of the summit on January 9. Only one big name is missing from the invitation list: that of Ratan Tata.
State commerce and industries minister Partha Chatterjee has sent invitation to 400 prominent names of the Indian industries, while West Bengal Industrial Development Corporation (WBIDC) managing director Nandini Chakraborty has sent invitations to around 2,200 corporate leaders.
According to sources in the WBIDC, not just Mr Tata but no one from the Tata Motors’ headquarters has been invited yet.

No rift with govt over date of birth: singh
Age Correspondent
New Delhi, Jan. 5

Army Chief Gen. V.K. Singh has said he has “perceptional differences” with the ministry of defence (MoD) on his date of birth controversy but added that this had not in any way affected the functioning of the Army. Speaking to a TV channel, Gen. Singh also said dignity and honour is an issue which he has flagged and said these were dear to any individual. He reiterated that there was no rift between him and the government and that the ties were cordial.
Meanwhile, speculation is rife that an understanding on the matter could be worked out between the government and the Army Chief wherein the government may accommodate Gen. Singh’s contention on the DoB issue after which the Army Chief will not pursue his case any further and retire in May this year.
On December 30, the MoD had rejected the statutory complaint of Gen. Singh on his date of birth (DoB) issue, thereby once again rejecting his contention that he was born on May 10, 1951. The government is firm on continuing to maintain in official records that Gen. Singh was born on May 10, 1950.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
