Bengal Metro impasse resolved, work today
The impasse over the construction of the Joka-BBD Bag proposed Metro rail connection was resolved on Tuesday after the state transport department gave its NOC (no objection certificate) to the Railway ministry to implement the project. The construction work will resume on Wednesday.
The fate of the proposed project was uncertain following the withdrawal of the NOC by the earlier Left Front government in the state, reasoning that the tram company unions were against laying of railway tracks over the tram tracks between Taratolla and Joka. Chief minister Mamata Banerjee had on Sunday held a meeting at her residence with the representatives of the tram employees unions, state PWD and transport minister Subrata Bakshi and Union minister of state for railways Mukul Roy to resolve the problem.
“On behalf of the railway ministry, I pay my sincere thanks to the state government which has given the NOC to the project in 24 hours’ time,” he said.
The construction work of the project will again commence on Wednesday.
