Bengal student alleges gangrape
A first-year student has alleged that she was drugged and then gangraped in the students’ union room of Nazrul Centenary Polytechnic College at Salanpur in Asansol.
The victim’s father has named five students, including a third-year student Soumyo Mondal, a Trinamul Chhatra Parishad (TMCP) leader who is all set to become the general secretary of the college students’ union. Two others are Avik Ghosh and Bijoy Singh, alias Bholu. Another is an outsider, Mithilesh Ojha, from Jharkhand. A girl student has also been named in the FIR as an accomplice in the crime. The victim is currently admitted in Chittaranjan Hospital.
According to the complaint filed by the victim’s father on Friday morning, the incident took place during a fest organised at the college on October 9.
The girl was called into the union room by three seniors where she was offered soft drinks laced with drugs. When she started feeling dizzy, the three youth were joined in by the TMCP leader. They all overpowered her, subjected her to ragging and then gangraped her.
“After the gangrape, the students took compromising pictures of my daughter in their mobile phones,” the father said. He further claimed that they were being threatened that the photos would be circulated on the Internet.
