Bengaluru: Two IBM engineers were detained by Hulimavu traffic police on Wednesday night for causing a series of accidents at Delmia circle in JP Nagar under the influence of alcohol. Those detained are Vishwanath (40) and Sundar (43), both software engineers at IBM.
Police said the duo was intoxicated on Wednesday night and Vishwanath was behind the wheel. Around 10:55 pm, as they were travelling in their sedan past Delmia circle towards Kalyani Magnum, Vishwanath reportedly swerved to avoid another vehicle and crashed into the compound wall of a house opposite Chetana PU College.
A two-wheeler rider who was behind the duo’s car, reportedly rammed into the car when it suddenly swerved and braked, causing the rider to fall down. The victim is 21-year-old Ravikumar, an employee of a mobile store in JP Nagar. He was returning home when the incident occurred.
Ravikumar sustained minor injuries while Sundar, Vishwanath’s co-passenger, sustained a broken spine. The driver escaped with a few bruises. Meanwhile, the owner of the house that Vishwanath crashed into, Srinivas, was also unhurt.
Hulimavu traffic police rushed to the spot immediately. A case has been filed against Vishwanath based on Ravikumar’s complaint, and police have also taken a statement from Srinivas. Officials said that a doctor’s report of the duo’s blood tests confirmed that they were under the influence of alcohol at the time of the accident.
Ravikumar was treated as an outpatient in Vijayshree hospital in Gottigere and discharged on Thursday morning. Sundar was admitted to Apollo Hospital on Bannerghatta road where he is undergoing treatment. Police are yet to arrest Vishwanath.

I want to begin with a little story that was told to me by a leading executive at Aptech. He was exercising in a gym with a lot of younger people.

Shekhar Kapur’s Bandit Queen didn’t make the cut. Neither did Shaji Karun’s Piravi, which bagged 31 international awards.
