‘Bhanwari body’ remains, gunny bag found
In a major breakthrough the CBI, probing Bhanwari Devi case, on Thursday recovered the gunny bag used to stuff the remains of the 36-year-old auxiliary nurse-cum-folk singer, from a canal near Jodhpur.
The agency has also recovered a blunt iron object and remains of Bhanwari’s body from the spot where it was set on fire after the murder. The agency was able to recover the gunny bag from the canal following the revelations made by Kailash Jakhar and Om Prakash, both key members of Jodhpur-based Bishna Ram gang. The agency on Wednesday arrested Bishna Ram near Pune.
The agency officials have sent the gunny bag, iron object and remains of Bhanwari’s body for forensic examination. The CBI officials also sent samples of the soil, collected from Jaloda area near Jodhpur where Bhanwari’s body was allegedly burnt, for forensic examination. CBI director A.P. Singh and additional director Salim Ali, accompanied by forensic experts, inspected the spot where Bhanwari’s body was burnt after she was allegedly murdered by the gang headed by Bishna Ram.
Sources said, “Probe by the agency has revealed that Kailash Jakhar and Om Prakash allegedly played key role in disposing off Bhanwari’s body after the killing. During interrogation, the duo confessed that they burnt the body of Bhanwari.”
