Bhushan: CBI deliberately slow
Counsel for NGO Centre for Public Interest Litigation (CPIL) Prashant Bhushan alleged that on the face of the “interference” by the law ministry, attorney-general G.E. Vahanvati also had “restricted” his opinion only to the dispute over Essar/Loop’s role and did not say anything about the chargesheeting DoT officials under the PCA.
“To support his argument, he (AG) cited relevant paras of reports prepared by the investigating officers, who had traced back the history of Loop Telecom to Essar’s operation way back from 2005,” the NGO’s 10-page application said.
On the alleged slow probe against former communications minister Dayanidhi Maran, Mr Bhushan said though FIR was registered against him on October 9, 2011 and his premises were searched a day later but “since then the CBI is deliberately going slow in the case and not made any arrest so far.”
“The case against Maran was a clear-cut corruption case of quid-pro-quo, and it is being made weak by the CBI. The chargesheet should have been filed in the case by now,” he said.
Besides, the NGO alleged that the probe against Shyam Telelink had not been taken in right earnest despite “hard evidence” on record that the company was not eligible for 2G licence and got them in 21 circles by “misrepresenting” facts about their financial viability and their tie-up with Sistema Russia.
