New Delhi: Bollywood superstar Amitabh Bachchan once again played the role of an angry `young’ man on Wednesday night when he got wild over a fake YouTube video that showed him endorsing Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi as the next Prime Minister of India.
An angry Bachchan tweeted: "FAKE !! FAKE !! FAKE !!! APPALLED AND ANGERED BY THIS ILLEGAL ACT ON ME .. PUTTING IT UP NOW, DO READ AND SEE AND CONDEMN .. !!!"
Minutes later, he explained saying someone had taken clips of the voiceover he had provided for a video in 2007. This clip was used with a different set of images to create a new video that amply made it clear that he was endorsing Modi. The new morphed video was uploaded from a YouTube account named 'Jitega Bharat'. Strangely, this is the only video uploaded from this account.
On Thursday morning, Modi tweeted saying he fully endorsed Bachchan’s viewpoint and that the person who uploaded the video should be punished.
Amitabh has been associated with Gujarat tourism where he was the key figure in promoting major tourist centres to the world through a series of short films. This support to Gujarat later made Kerala tourism to drop Amitabh from their proposed campaign.
Meanwhile, Amitabh said: "DEAR ALL ... FAKE VIDEO CIRCULATION ... In the year 2007, I did a Lead India campaign for The Times of India, where we talked of the glorification of the country and India. SOMEBODY has made a fake video by using my voice and text of what I spoke in the original, and falsely and mischievously, interspersed it with visuals which indicate a campaign for the promotion of the Hon Chief Minister of Gujarat, Shri Narendra Modi!!"
The Bollywood superstar has threatened to initiate legal action against the person who had created the fake and uploaded it on YouTube.
Said Amitabh: "I wish to state that this is an illegal act, inviting strong action, one that I am appalled by, and one that has no concurrence from me at all... I have brought this to the notice of the concerned authorities, and asked my Digital Team to find out its origin so that we can initiate action against the perpetrator. This is a blatant misuse and infringement of the Copyright Act, and needs to be condemned by all those that become a part of this platform," he wrote. "(I am) infuriated and angered."
His Twitter supporters backed him to the hilt and his tweets about the fake video were retweeted several hundred times. On YouTube, Amitabh gams down-voted the video.
After all the anger, Amitabh logged off for the day and went to bed as a satisfied man when he got a massive support from his online fans. "Thank you all ..!! Off to bed .. travel tomorrow !!" he tweeted.
