Bihar bandh on fuel price hike begins
A state-wide bandh called by the RJD-LJP combine demanding that Centre withdraw the hiked prices of petroleum products began on Saturday morning.
There was no report of any untoward incident from anywhere in the state so far, official sources said.
In the morning, train services were reported to be normal and vehicular traffic was thin, sources said.
Most schools in the state capital here remained closed because of Saturday.
RJD-LJP combine activists led by their leaders Mr Lalu Prasad and Mr Ram Vilas Paswan would bring out procession in the state capital in the afternoon seeking to enforce the call, sources said.
Private operators suspended their bus services as a precautionary measures. The state-run buses were seen plying on the roads, sources said.
Essential services including hospital, water supply and electricity have been exempted from the purview of the bandh, Mr Paswan said.
The bandh has also been called to protest against the alleged failure of the state and central governments to contain escalating prices of essential commodities besides the Nitish Kumar government's alleged failure on all fronts.
