Bihar body’s plea to halt Srini’s bid in SC on Friday
The Supreme Court will on Friday hear the plea of the Cricket Associ-ation of Bihar seeking to restrain N. Srinivasan from contesting for the post of cricket board president at the BCCI’s annual general meeting on September 29.
At Tuesday’s hearing, the Bihar association’s counsel sought an urgent hearing as the BCCI election will take place at the AGM in Chennai next Sunday. A bench headed by Justice A.K. Patnaik said it will hear the plea on Friday. In its plea, the CAB sought an “interim injunction” to restrain Mr Srinivasan from contesting for BCCI chief. It also sought a direction to the BCCI that Mr Srinivasan not be inducted in any board committee till the matter pending in court is decided.
The court earlier posted for October the hearing on cross appeals by the BCCI and CAB against the Bombay high court verdict declaring as illegal the probe panel appointed by the board to examine the spot-fixing scandal.
It had on August 30 heard the petition filed by Aditya Verma, CAB secretary, challenging the high court’s order refusing to appoint a fresh committee to probe the scam. It also issued notices to the BCCI, Mr Srinivasan, India Cements and Rajasthan Royals.
