Bihar doctor dragged out of clinic, shot dead by suspected Maoists
An ayurvedic doctor in Bihar was pulled out of his clinic and shot dead by a group of suspected Maoists, police here said on Wednesday.
Dr Rajesh Kumar, 28, was shot dead late on Tuesday at Sheikhpurwa bazaar in East Champaran district, about 200 km from here.
"Over half a dozen slogan-shouting armed Maoists attacked the doctor's clinic. He was dragged out from the clinic and shot dead," a police official said.
Police suspect the doctor was targeted because he refused to pay extortion money to the Maoists.
"In rural areas, Maoists extort money from professionals like doctors, contractors and traders," an official said.
Furious at the killing, locals in the town blocked roads and demanded that Rajesh Kumar's family be paid adequate compensation.
