Bihar gets more time for firing probe
With the judicial inquiry commission probing the Forbesganj police firing on poor Muslims failing to submit its report within the stipulated six months, the Bihar government has extended the single-member panel’s term by a year.
While the term of the judicial commission headed by Justice Madhavendra Saran (Retd) ended on December 22, the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government kept quiet about the probe’s outcome and the need for an extension until the main Opposition party RJD began asking. Deputy chief minister Sushil Kumar Modi, whose party BJP’s role in the police firing was severely questioned, cited “procedural delay” in granting an extension of the term of panel.
