BJP alleges cover-up in 2G scam
Continuing its demand of sacking of telecom minister A. Raja, the main Opposition BJP on Saturday said reports that a law ministry official facilitated a meeting between Mr Raja’s lawyer, CBI official and solicitor-general to chalk out a “unified strategy” on the 2G spectrum case was a “clear proof” of the government’s cover-up plan and “tantamount to contempt” of the Supreme Court.
The CPI(M) also reacted on the issue by saying “there is no way that this issue can be pushed under the carpet.” Both parties demanded Prime Minister Manmohan Singh to come clear on this issue.
CBI officials maintained a stoic silence over the reported meeting between one of its officials, solicitor-general and Mr Raja’s lawyer. “This meeting was to decide the unified strategy to be adopted before the top court. Such a meeting and an effort is unheard of and totally unethical and is a clear proof of government’s cover-up plan, notwithstanding shifting of the convenor officer in the face of leakage about the meeting,” BJP spokesperson Prakash Javadekar said.
Demanding a response from the Prime Minister and the Congress top brass on the issue, the BJP leader said: “The Prime Minister has a clean image but he cannot remain a mute spectator to these sins, crimes and scams for so long.”
