BJP announces 87 candidates for Bihar

The BJP on Tuesday announced names of 87 candidates for the coming Bihar Assembly polls. The party, which is contesting on 102 seats, will announce remaining names at a later stage. The Bihar Assembly has a strength of 243. Its alliance partner, the JD(U), is contesting on 141 seats.

The prominent among these names are that of senior state unit leader and minister in the Nitish Kumar government, Ashwini Choubey, who will be contesting from Bhagalpur Assembly berth.
Of the 87 names announced on Tuesday, 46 are sitting MLAs. The BJP denied tickets to four sitting MLAs, including a state Cabinet minister, Ramji Rishidev, who had contested from Raniganj Assembly seat during the last Assembly polls. Instead of him, the BJP nominated Parmanand Rishidev from the same Assembly segment.
The party also denied ticket to Sanjiv Kumar Jha, a sitting MLA, who had contested from Saharsa seat. Instead, the party nominated Alok Jha from there.
The party has given ticket to eight women candidates, including Sukhda Pande, who is also the party’s national vice-president. Dr Pandey would be contesting from Buxar Assembly seat.
